Music reinventing itself

Parents what are they good for?

Some may cook for you, wash your clothes, etc. but that not what im thinking of...
Although my Mums taste in music rarely branches away from elvis presley, my dads taste in music is genuinly quite good!

In listening to various collections of my dads music, i have noticed that new bands infact sound the same as old bands from the 1970s and 1980s... just a few examples:

The Libertines - Early stuff from The Cure
The Killers - Echo and the Bunnymen
The Strokes - Velvet Underground

Im sure there are several more that i cant remember, but other bands from this sort of period worth listening to:
The Who, The Doors, The Clash, T-Rex, The Jam

  • Sorry, sorry.
Nothing about music in this response.
Thanks again for your input, I am enjoying this political banter :p

    - Waste spending may refer in part to those gov't jobs (why aren't these people trained in a profession? government jobs do not produce anything but do take a wage. I daresay the initial costs of training would outweigh the overall economic benefits of having more skilled people working) but I am looking more towards waste issues such as unnecessary government purchases and investments.

Labour has said it will make £22bn worth of savings by efficiences in government purchasing and cutting 80,000 jobs. Tories are looking at axing more jobs from QUANGOs and saving an extra £13 billion.

    - The above then reveals the whereabouts of the £35 billion. It is simply a re-assignment of funds, which, instead of being placed in services, will be placed on tax breaks.

I daresay that Labour would raise taxes higher still, to raise the deficit £13 billion the Tories have found (albeit at the cost of more jobs).

    - You said that "Immigration cannot be the only reason used to blame on the failures of the NHS" granted, it most certainly is not. Equally, nor are the elderly the only strain on the NHS. Rather, the strains on the NHS come from too little doctors for our population, and too little improvements actually being made, despite labour investments. Sure, labour can quote all sorts of statistics at me at this point, telling me how they've increased doctors and nurses in the NHS. This, however, does not mean we have enough doctors and nurses, which we do not.

Anything can be improved in the short term by throwing fists of money at it. This is not a wise move, however. I would prefer the painful, long term approach of actually reforming the NHS system. This would be a massive upheaval, sure. But one I, and I feel many other Britons, would prefer to take if it means actual long term improvements and stability.

    - You said "better than thinking that people dont care [about voting]" - no, not at all better. Whilst it may provide a feel good factor, it is akin to sticking one's head in the ground, and refusing to see the actual facts.
I prefer to see my enemies than hide from them and pretend they're not there - and not wanting to vote is everyone's enemy.

As you can see, I'm somewhat of a realist.

    - liberal democrats were a splinter of the liberal party, after they split on Catholic emancipation (I think. Not entirely sure. Either that, or something about voting reforms).

"saying that people have got in power when they are useless or evil doesnt make it right" - Roosvelt wasn't useless. He brought the USA out of the Great Depression and began to restore their economy. A mammoth task.

    Sure, the Nazis were evil.
However, my point was more about their pre-1936 plans (1936 is when they began to prepare for war) which were aimed at restoring the economy after two depressions in less than a decade. Their plans sprang from nowhere and actually worked. It created a most terrible machine, however, which terrorised many.

Of course, Roosvelt is on a different level to anyone currently in world politics.

Britain needs a leader: not someone who takes the people where they want to be, but someone who will take the people where they ought to be.

    We lack this sorely.

Notice how the Socialist party didn't get a single seat. Also notice how the voters didn't come out in droves to support them - the two are inextricably linked, i'm sure you realise :p

At least there's support for the party *I* vote for ;-)

Anyway, point is, time to update your blog, Mr. Ant D! In your own time :p - consider yourself told off. or something.
