The Amazing Life of Ant D - Page 19

  • Public F**King Transport

Most of the time I am a very cheerful fellow but on the odd occasion I do find myself getting very angry and this weekend was one of those few occasions and it is all due to various modes of public transport.

Hoorah I thought as I finished my seminar on Friday, Im going home to see family and friends. Having pre-booked a train I left uni with a good three quaters of an hour to do what is essentially a 20 minute journey.. after buses being late, stopping to change drivers  for about 5 minutes and not stopping in the correct places meant that I missed my train by 4 minutes and so instead of paying just the £7 for the pre-booked ticket I had to pay another tenner.. I was less than impressed. This Lateness also made me miss the fireworks display that was pretty much the point that I went home this weekend.

When I finally got home though I had a very nice weekend, on the Friday night I may have missed the display but I caught onto the end of the party that followed which was nice but I didnt drink because I wasnt in the mood.

Saturday I went out with the lads, a few people that I hadnt seen for months like shane, leander and darryl and a few that I had seen a bit more recently but nevertheless were a joy to hang out with anyway. Mary was there aswell but not for the majority of the evening (dont worry I would see her the next day). Stupidly, under the influence of Dave, half the evening was spent by most on the itbox which I agree is good fun but not for more than 5 to 10 minutes really. Whilst some were doing that I was taking others up to the bar for sly drinks but I wasnt particularly drunk, it must be the london air as I seem to get drunk a lot easier in Essex.

On Sunday morning I went for a nice breakfast in the cafe before sitting in watching the football with my family and then back to weatherspoons in the evening where I met up with Mary and her friend Teresa who I had not met previously but who seems very nice and as she has a boyfriend called Ant, clearly knows a good name when she hears one. Mary got quite tipsy and started trying to match make the barman with her good friend Jo. I spoke to Blondie on the Phone for a short while so he was almost there and also John (PNB) came in to say a quick hello which was a pleasant surprise as I havnt seen him in ages and wasnt expecting to see him all weekend as he told me he was working the whole time.

But then today, started with the 6am start and despite making it to the station in plenty of time my return ticket didnt work because I apparently printed off the return ticket on the way down.. now why the hell would I do that, stupidbloody train company, so I had to shell out yet more money on train tickets.. GRRR. So in trying to save money on tickets by booking online I probably ended up paying double what I did last time so for future reference I shall not book online because public transport, especially in Colchester can not be trusted in the slightest.

P.S. Well done Rossy boy for reaching two decades of life, you're bloody OLD my man

  • Halloween!!

1st of all I would just like to mention that I've been at University for exactly a month now, isn't that just so cool and although the time has gone by in a flash it feels like I have been here with these people for ever, how very strange.

My halloween escapades started earlier than most as a few of us decided to go and see Saw III which is the type of film that I usually evade at all costs due to my relatively squeemish nature but having seen the 2nd one a few days before and it was getting into teh spirit, so i went. Before going of course we got into our halloween outfits, medium_grouple.jpgmine consisted of a bin liner for a top, a bin liner skirt type thing (with clothes underneath i hastened to add) and some fake blood and drawn on scars. So it was off to the cinema and you would be surprised how many odd looks we got despite it being halloween. The film was gory and horrible but with an interesting story line and for that fact I quite enjoyed it.

medium_halloween.jpgWe came back to find everyone else all dressed up and so we headed off to the "halloween extravaganza" or thats at least what I thought, we made a quick detour to Top Bar where we met up with a few people and had some drinks, before actually heading off to the main event.

We went into sub-zero to find it quite packed which is quite unusual before 11 but nevertheless it was. We hung around for a bit, yes drinking and getting free hats which were rubbish until the Urban Voodoo Machine cam on, basically a massive about 8 piece band who were pretty dull but not painful to the ear holes. They played for too long and we got bore but then they were off and we eagerly awaited for the main event the horrible team of psychos that are Dirty Sanchez and they came on at around 12:15 or so and proceeded to do some stupid stunts like stapling a tounge to a book and smashing pots over peoples heads. It wasn't as funny as I was expecting so rather than staying around to greet the people I and a couple of others made off to Mondos to see the Queens of Noize.

This was easily my favourite part of the evening, cool people making good dancy music and it was just awesome. After they finished the set they tried to go on longer but the security people wouldnt let them. Then I talked to them because I could and they were brilliant and they said they liked my hair and as most will know that is the biggest compliment I can get - I did get picture evidence but so far it has not turned up which is quite annoying. Just to point out the reason why the queens of noize excite me as most of you probably wont know who they are.  Basically they are friends of Peter Doherty and one of them used to go out with him and thus I have been touched by people who have touched Pete, yay, Im not a sad loser....

Anyway we then went back to flat 11 which is where we often go at the end of an evening, chatted for a bit and then back down to flat 6 for bed

  • Boy Kill Boy

Ahhh my first blog since arriving at Uni where I will concentrate soley on one event or at least one night of events, last night saw the band that is boy kill boy come to Essex University and thus the 1st good band that I have seen so far and so the night went as follows.

At about 6 o'clock i realised that infact I wouldnt get any work done before we were scheduled to go out at about 7:30ish, so I messaged Ben and we went out to the kitchen, made us some toasties (its the thing to do now) and then we decided hey why not go get some alcohol from the uni shop cos it will be cheaper than buying at the gig, and so we did, only 2 cans each mind and then we hung around the flat for a while gathering nicole and alex before setting off for the gig at about 7:45

When we got there though the doors still weren't open so we had to wait a while and then after a few minutes we went in, of course straight to the bar for a quick refreshment and then we waited for the 1st band. They were Vega4 who opened with an apology that half the band werent ale to turn up.. of course no one really cared as no one knew who they were but they turned out not to be too bad, a bit slow but nevertheless not terrible and they did get a big cheer when changing one of the lyrics in their song to essex university.

The 2nd band were called Ali Love which is a terrible name so I assumed that they would indeed be terrible but in fact they were more enjoyable than the first lot, the lead singer was undoubtedly very cool despite his love of tight jeans. The set was finished with a song called K-hole which he said that we would all know what it meant, out of all the people I talked to not one did, but now i believe it is something to do with being high on Kitamin (some sort of drug i assume) but anyway it was a great song especially live, I listened to the demo from myspace and it wasnt as good but still a solid song.

Then to the main event Boy Kill Boy, they were clearly a very well rounded group even if all of their songs do have a similar sound to them but hey if its not broke why fix it, over the course of the set they played all their singles and a couple of new ones and despite my shouting there was no playing of Maneater which they covered so brilliantly on radio 1 a few weeks back. They did acknowledge my shouting though which I was pretty chufed about saying "maneater, dont you want to hear any of our songs" they also played a song that they said they had never played live before, called A-OK so I feel special. Even more special since after the set the lead singer shook my hand 1st and despite him trying to get away I made the keyboard player to shake my hand and he didnt shake anyone elses how cool.

After the show we went onto the Lost Disco because we are all so hardcore, by the end of boy kill boy we had met up with Sue (lip ring girl) and this guy called Rossen who is quite funny, and inside we met up with welsh Dan and the two Stephs medium_lost_disco_week_3.jpgand then we got down to some serious Indie dancing despite no one else there really being Indie, Alex and Nicole flirt with the idea but really they just dont match up to the standards. It was a good laugh but we were all quite tired and so we left by about half past one despite the constant playing of Libertines Larrikin Love and such, but Ive got all the songs on here anyway so there.

And that was pretty much that, I should probably get down to some hardcore working right now so see you all soon.. END
